District Governor - PP-Errol Wildman PHF

Errol & Janna Wildman

Rotary Club of Toowoomba

In 1981 a friend asked Errol to join the Rotary Club of Toowoomba and he was inducted in May that year. As a Director in the family Company, work commitments took him away from Toowoomba so in the early years of Rotary he had make ups in many different Clubs. This gave Errol an insight to the individuality of Rotary Clubs. Errol served in Community Service, Treasurer and enjoyed all the various Club activities. He worked on the District GSE Committee and in the 80's hosted Exchange students from South Africa , Japan and Turkey . His two children enjoyed the Rotary Club of Toowoomba's Short Term Exchange with the Rotary Club of Mitsukaido, District 2820 Japan .

Janna and Errol have travelled extensively in Australia and overseas and although they have visited many beautiful places they are happy to have Toowoomba as their home base. Going to the East State Primary School and completing secondary schooling at the Toowoomba Grammar School , Errol enjoyed Athletics and Rugby , with education being down the list of priority. Errol met Janna at a school dance and they have never parted, marrying in 1968. Nicholle and Karl are their children and they now have 6 grand children.

Errol was brought up to have a strong work ethic, respect for all fellow beings and a strong Christian belief, ideals that have matured as he has experienced life. On leaving school he started work in the family timber merchandising business. Learning it from the ground up, he progressed to being a principal of the company. He also was heavily involved in timber industry activities being Chairman of the Hardwood Association 1978-1989, Director of the Queensland Timber Board 1976-1989 being Chairman 1981-1983, a councillor on the Timber Research and Development Advisory Council 1979-1989. In 1991 Errol and Janna took over the family sawmill, processing Cypress and Spotted Gum at Wandoan and built it into the most technically advanced mill in western Queensland .

In 1992-1998 Errol attended the University of Queensland externally and completed a Bachelor of Business. From the 1980's to 2000 he was a councillor on the Local Ambulance Committee and was on the committee for the Toowoomba Royal Agricultural Society being Ring Master and Chairman of the Ring Committee as well as participating on several other committees.

Errol believes Rotarians are by membership, Leaders in their field and it is for him to focus these skills with sound direction, achievable goals, and to always remember they are volunteers, who through fellowship with like minded people wish to make a difference in their community and the world.
