Past District Governor - PP-Allan James, PHF

 

Born in Cairns, Allan completed an apprenticeship as an electronics technician in 1975.  In 1980 Allan joined a national company that serviced marine and aircraft electronics.  The family moved to Melbourne and then to Brisbane in 1980.  The move to Brisbane saw Allan appointed as the senior marine electronics service engineer. 

In 1982 he joined TAFE as a technical teacher and graduated from teacher's college in 1984.  In 1990, he accepted a position to manage the R&D department in a Brisbane company developing telemetry and industrial control applications. In 1999, he and Debbie formed a company that writes software and develops specialized electronic products on a contract basis.  He is still teaching a range of electronics and computer related subjects at TAFE on a part time basis. 

Allan has had a history of community service.  He joined Apex in Cairns and continued active participation in Melbourne and then in Brisbane.  After a short break he joined the Rotary Club of Salisbury in 1997.  Allan has held a number of board positions and served as President in 2001-2002.  At the Zone Institute in Launceston last year, Allan was elected to the ARCAP board as the DGE representative. 

After serving two years as Assistant Governor and he is looking forward to the new and challenging experience as District Governor.  This year as well as the planning and other duties associated with the position as DGE, Allan will be supporting Debbie as she serves as District Chairman the Inner Wheel District A77. 

He is the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow recognition, awarded for service to District 9630 and the community. 

Allan married his high school sweetheart Debbie in 1975.  They have one daughter Nicki who is married to Shaun, and two beautiful grandchildren Allie and Samual.
