Debbie was born in Brisbane to Tony & Therese Wharton - The eldest of their seven children - six girls and one boy. After she completed year eight in Brisbane, her father was transferred to Cairns with his job. Debbie met her future husband Allan while attending high school. After completing school Debbie worked as a clerk in a large hardware company. She and Allan were married in February 1975 and their beautiful daughter Nicki was born in December 1976.
Debbie’s introduction and involvement in Rotary and Inner Wheel commenced while living in Cairns. Debbie’s father Tony joined Rotary and this enabled her mother, Therese to join Inner Wheel in 1975. After moving to Brisbane Therese became Chairman of Inner Wheel District A77. Debbie attended a number of Rotary and Inner Wheel functions in Cairns little realising that one day she would join these wonderful organisations.
Debbie joined the Inner Wheel Club of Wishart as a Charter member and has held various Club and District positions. Debbie became Chairman of Inner Wheel District A77 in 2005-2006 and was a member of Inner Wheel Australia Governing Body in 2006-2007.
Debbie joined the Rotary Club of Salisbury in 2004 as the first female to join the Club. Debbie has held various positions in the Club and was Club President in 2007-2008. She enjoyed being District Secretary for DG Chris in 2008-2009 and is looking forward to the privilege of serving as Governor in 2011-2012.
Debbie has always supported her husband PDG Allan in all his avenues of service. She accompanied him on his official visits throughout District 9630 in 2006-2007 enabling her to fully appreciate the diversity of Clubs, members and their activities. Debbie has also been named a Paul Harris Fellow. Debbie is also a Charter Member of the District 9630 Paul Harris Society.
Debbie is currently a Senior Library Technician at Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE and a Director of the family business.
Debbie and Allan’s daughter, Nicki is married to Shaun and they have
two of the most beautiful children, Allie aged 8 (named after her grandadda) and Samual aged 4.
