District 9630

Assists clubs in developing and sustaining projects
dedicated to the preservation of the
earth's environmental quality and its sustainable resources.

Through Preserve Planet Earth, Rotarians - and through them, others - are encouraged to live environmentally conscious lifestyles, to increase the number and diversity of environmental service projects carried out by clubs, and to promote greater awareness among all Rotarians of the critical environmental issues affecting their communities and the planet.

Recognizing the need to address the growing environmental crisis, Rotary International launched its Preserve Planet Earth (PPE) focus in 1990. This initiative underscored the commitment already evident in a wide range of Rotary club projects. Many clubs are helping solve environmental problems by reforesting, establishing animal sanctuaries, reducing toxic waste, sponsoring educational activities, and promoting ecological practices.

PPE projects foster concern for the global environment and sustainable development. Sustainable development projects promote economic and social progress that alleviates poverty and preserves the environment for future generations. They are supported by agencies of the United Nations, national governments, and organizations such as Rotary International.

The District 9630 PPE Committee supports Earth programs and provides Rotary clubs with environmental project opportunities to contribute to the Preserve Planet Earth objectives.
