DISTRICT 9630 FIJI - WATER PROJECT
D 9630 Water Project has turned out to be a Multi District Project with four other Districts pledging District Dedicated Funds for a Matching Grant. There are now hundreds of Rotarians from USA, Fiji and Australia who are supporting this wonderful project of providing safe drinking water to 300 families in four villages and 158 children in a nearby school owned by those villages in the highlands of Fiji.
I have attached the draft Matching Grant Application which explains in brief the what, where, why and how.

The Year 8 kids put this on their notice board to let every one know we were coming.
It was school holidays which gave us a full opportunity to explore the whole school.

DGE Errol Wildman and Jim Wilson with the Chiefs, Elders and villagers of the Naibita village.
The “kava” bowl in the foreground was used at the welcoming ceremony with many hand claps.
The community centre in which we are sitting was built by the villagers on a promise of one third / two thirds contribution by the government. They are still waiting for their two thirds.
President of the Rotary Club of Suva receiving our club banner at their lunch time meeting.
The club has agreed to be the host club for the Matching Grant and has committed $1000 toward the project.
One or two of these bright students have computer skills, so the Wilson Family is donating a computer and a generator and one month’s fuel.
Any educational programs that members may have or could get burned would be greatly appreciated.
The children have some books in the library which are now very outdated, no toys, no sporting equipment, no writing books and no pencils. (Errol gave them pencils and sharpeners, including a book of photos of Toowoomba) You should have seen their faces light up?
The children are starved for literacy opportunities..

DGE Errol with Ellana Wilson and one of the chiefs who was so pleased to learn of our intended project of providing water tanks to the four villages and school.

This is DGE Errol tasting the banana cake which he loved and hand several helpings.
Jim is not pictured but his favourite was the coconut slices.
You wouldn’t believe that we were offered hot cocoa and it was delicious.
Nailega Village was our last port of call. The child is my grand son, Baby Leith.
